EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE (E.F.R.)
This course meets or exceeds the standards of the American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Emergency Care or Multimedia Standard First Aid courses and satisfies the first aid training requirements 46 CFR 10,205(h)(2)(iv) for a merchant marine licence. On completion you are certified as an Emergency First Responder and have the necessary skills to extend the window of opportunity during which a person with life threatening injuries/illness can be saved. There are additional modules which relate to different victim age bands and areas of expertise e.g. Care For Children, Automated Electronic Defibrilator (A.E.D.) and Oxygen Administrator, which can be added to the base course.
Required age/certification level
This course is open to any age and no previous experience or qualification is required. The program is conducted via independent study and in a classroom environment
The independent study is supported via knowledge reviews which are reviewed by the instructor. This is followed by classroom lectures/scenarios and a final exam.
The course may be conducted during a day or over one or two evenings, dependent on the number of students and the resources available.
Each person should have an E.F.R. manual and a pocket mask.
